URL Codes for Steem
Let's Give Steem QR codes for payments. Why do we need QR codes for Steem network purchases? There are several reasons. For one thing, although the feature that allows you to pay to a name makes sending payments to a given user makes getting the destination easy to get right, presently merchants also require a unique memo field. Arguably, an exchange should not need to use such a field because the user name makes clear who the funds are from. Yet they do ask for that. Steemfiles.com asks for this as well in order to know which download is being paid for. There may be two people who have not bothered logging in, looking at different products. The website needs to know where to upload the file to. Should it upload to the user in Africa or the one in Asia?
If using a website, one must enter his or her active keys into the site in order to send funds. This makes Steem like a web-wallet only crypto-currency. It feels like PayPal. It works like PayPal. We rely on a third party to handle the keys correctly. It does but it is bad that they need to.
If the user only needed to copy and paste a single string, this user wouldn't be mistyping destinations or amounts. Since he needs to copy and paste the normally hard to remember memo, changing this to a single string wold be a big improvement. I am thinking the form should look like the following:
steem:leprechaun?amount=10%20SBD&r=https%3A%2F%2Fsteemfiles.com&memo=the%20memo
QR Codes
As a URL, just by clicking this cold fill in all of the fields in an appropriate website or program then the user just needs to click "ACCEPT" and the payment is sent. In addition, by turning this into a QR code a user could pay from a smart phones and pay websites and make donations from paper pictures posted outside. It would also make keeping the active key only on one device more convenient.
