Children Keep Learning From Our Actions

The older my kids gets, the more I notice how much they picks up from my everyday actions. Sometimes it's the little things that surprise me the most, they get curious at my every actions. The way I greet people, how I react when plans don't go my way, or even how I speak about myself. It reminds me that children are always learning, even when we don't realise they are paying attention.

There have been days when I've asked my child to be patient, only to catch myself becoming impatient over something small. Moments like that make me stop and think. It isn't enough to tell our children the right thing, we have to show them what it looks like too. That has probably been one of the hardest but most rewarding lessons motherhood has taught me.

I've also learned that children don't expect us to be perfect. They just need us to be honest. When I make a mistake, I try to admit it instead of pretending nothing happened. Saying, "I'm sorry," to my child wasn't something I imagined I would do so often before becoming a parent, but now I see how powerful those words are. If I want my child to learn accountability, then I need to practise it myself.

Another thing motherhood has changed is how I see the ordinary moments. Cooking together, cleaning up after making a mess, helping someone without expecting anything in return, or simply putting my phone down to give my child my full attention, these may seem like small things, but I believe they leave a lasting impression. These everyday choices quietly teach values that no lecture can ever do.

There are still days when I lose my patience or feel exhausted. Parenting doesn't come with a manual, and none of us gets it right all the time. I've stopped chasing the idea of being the perfect mom because I know I can not be, Instead, I try to be present, to keep learning, and to become a little better each day. I hope my child sees that growth is a lifelong journey and that it's okay to stumble as long as we keep getting back up.

Motherhood has made me more aware of the person I am becoming because I know someone is learning from me every single day. It's a responsibility that can feel overwhelming, but it's also a beautiful reminder to live with intention.

Our children may not remember every piece of advice we gave them. But the will remember how we treated people, how we handled difficult moments, and how we made them feel. Those are the lessons that stay with them long after childhood.

So every day, I remind myself that parenting isn't just about raising a child. It's also about becoming the kind of person I hope my kids will one day grow up to be.

I still have a lot to learn, but if motherhood has taught me one thing, it's this our children are always learning, not just from our words, but from the life they see us live. I think that is both the greatest challenge and the greatest privilege of being a parent.
