Trip Extras from the Azores

Well, I've got one last data dump post in me from a trip that ended over a year ago now. This will be my last trip extras post about the Azores, I swear it.

Come take a walk with me as I take you through my remaining pictures.

20250510_080602~2.jpg

We'll start at the begining, on the Island of Sao Miguel and the city of Furnas. It was the first destination that we visited upon our arrival.

These first few photos were taken in the Parque Terra Nostra.

It was a tropic botanical garden with a large, iron rich thermal pool that you can swim in. There were also various gardens and forested areas to explore as well.

The koi fish had their own streams to swim in that weren't thermal, obviously It wouldn't be pleasant to see a bunch of cooked fish floating in a pond. That I know for certain.

Thats it, thats all, for furnas.

Now moving on to the Gorreana Tea Plantation, also visited that first day on the island.

We took a lot of photos amongst the tea hedges. You can walk through them freely as long as your respectful, which most people were.

It was one of the best spots for taking pictures on the trip I thought.

20250511_133351~2.jpg

The clouds were moody that day but the pictures were decent.

20250512_160047~2.jpg

Porto Formoso Tea Factory was the next stop, on a different day.

20250512_160345~2.jpg

This was actually an even more beautiful location.

20250512_160331~2.jpg

That could be in part because the sun was out though.

20250512_162713~2.jpg

The combination of green fields and blue ocean water always works great together.

20250512_100701~2.jpg

Okay, moving on. The next few photos were taken during our Sete Cidades hike.

20250512_131951~2.jpg

The hike took us about a third of the way around the perimeter of a volcanic crater and then down into the town at the bottom.

20250512_131439~2.jpg

There were two small lakes at the bottom of the crater that were unique in that one of them was blue in color and the other distinctly green.

Next is just a picture that was hanging up in the lobby of one of our hotels. I just liked the image.

20250513_122948~2.jpg

And here is a dog asleep on a cross walk on a street, just not giving a f*ck. Let sleeping dogs lie, as they say.

20250510_061357~2.jpg

This was a random church. Its kind of interesting how most churches all look the same in any given country or region. This is what churches look like in the Azores.

20250513_125336~2.jpg

Next are a few photos of my wife on the island of Sao Jorge.

20250513_124341~2.jpg

Her flashy red pants really contrasted nicely against the black lava rock. Don't you think?

20250513_130649~2.jpg

We did an impromptu hike that day along the rocky coast.

20250513_133007~2.jpg

It ended up being a really decent hike considering it was unplanned and just a path that we happened to stumble upon and follow to its end.

20250513_131637~2.jpg

There was a decent amount of variety and quite a few look out locations along the way.

1000019110.jpg

There was also a nice little man made swimming pool that we found connected to the ocean.

20250513_201008~2.jpg

We had one really nice evening weather-wise on the island. The skies were clear enough to see across the sea to the pyramid shaped mountain on the island of Pico. It poked through the clouds that evening.

20250514_124744~2.jpg

The last photos that I have are a few extras from our rainy day hike on Sao Jorge.

20250514_135725~2.jpg

We got soaked during our hour long trek to a remote village located on the Fajã da Caldeira de Santo Cristo.
