The Weight of Expectations
There’s a saying I’ve been clinging to lately: "Live within your means" (or as we say, "Stretch your arm no further than your sleeve"). Yeah, I know it sounds a bit blunt, but in reality, it’s simpler than it seems.
For example, when we start earning a bit more than before, our expenses naturally increase. We start enjoying life more and say goodbye to "saving mode." That’s when the difficult moment arrives: learning to set priorities. There’s no point in overspending or going into debt for things that are just expenses, or just to show off and buy things outside our budget.
Trust me, I know! It’s tempting to overspend and indulge ourselves to the fullest; I’m all for that. But I’m not for going into debt to do it—like changing a car that still works perfectly. I think to myself: Why would I do that? If I clearly have other priorities and it’s not within my reach right now, it’s not worth taking on debt that isn't an investment or a source of income.
I believe that knowing your limits, even when it comes to splurging, is essential. Being in debt is one of the worst feelings—it truly drains your energy.
