Daily Blog - Day out at the Avellaneda exhibition: a little bonsai, a little origami, and a little food. / Día de paseo en la exposición de Avellaneda: un poco de bonsai, un poco de origami y un poco de comida. 😃❤️

One might think that “the trip ends and the fun ends too,” but for me, that’s never the case. I firmly believe that life should be built around memorable moments, and having a good time is a choice. By the time I returned from my last backpacking trip, my mindset had changed a little, but I wasn’t going to let that alter my love for outings and new experiences. That’s why I promised myself I would keep going to places that interested me, while waiting for my new stage in life to begin ❤️.

Uno podría llegar a pensar que "se termina el viaje y se termina la diversión", pero para mí esto nunca es así. Tengo bien en claro que la vida hay que construirla con momentos memorables, y pasarla bien es una elección. Para cuando volví de mi último paseo de mochilera, mi mente había cambiado un poco, pero no iba a dejar que eso modifique mi gusto por los paseos y las nuevas experiencias. Por eso me prometí seguir yendo a lugares de mi interés, al mismo tiempo que esperaba que mi nueva etapa comenzara ❤️.

If you have ever gone through a job search, you know how stressful it can be. Looking for a job is a job in itself, so after returning from the trip, I took the weekend to rest before starting my intensive job hunt. It’s not that I terribly missed working, but I needed to start saving money to build my adult life. That’s why I used my last “free” weekend to go out with my sister and her boyfriend to a curious bonsai exhibition in Avellaneda, Buenos Aires.

Si alguna vez has pasado por la búsqueda de trabajo, sabrás que esto es algo estresante. Buscar trabajo en sí mismo es un trabajo, por lo que después de volver del viaje, me tomé el fin de semana para descansar antes de empezar mi búsqueda intensiva de trabajo. No es que extrañara un montón trabajar, sino que necesitaba empezar a ahorrar para construir mi vida adulta. Fue por eso que mi último fin de semana "libre" lo usé para ir a pasear con mi hermana y su novio a una curiosa exposición de bonsai en Avellaneda, Buenos Aires.

I had never seen a bonsai tree in real life before, and this exhibition was full of them. During our visit, we must have seen more than 50 species of bonsai, each one more adorable than the last. At this kind of fair, I learned that growing a bonsai is actually a gardening technique: it’s not a special seed for a tiny tree, but rather a regular seed that is carefully pruned to control its growth. It’s incredible—these truly looked like miniature trees.

Yo nunca había visto un bonsai en la vida real, y esta exposición estaba lleno de ellos. En nuestro recorrido, habremos visto más de 50 especies de bonsai, uno más adorables que otros. En esta especie de feria, me enteré que hacer crecer un bonsai es una técnica de jardineria: no es que se trate de una semilla especial para un árbol pequeño, sino que es una semilla común a la que se va podando convenientemente para controlar su crecimiento. Es increíble, estos de verdad se veían como un árbol en miniatura.

Another interesting part of this exhibition was its origami section. On the other side of the large venue where the exhibition was being held, there was a series of beautiful and incredible works made from folded paper. Some of them were so large and astonishing that it was hard to believe someone had designed and handcrafted them. The creativity at this exhibition seemed endless.

Otro punto interesante de esta exposición era su sección de origami. En otra punta del gran recinto en el que se llevaba a cabo la exposición, había una serie de hermosos e increíbles trabajos hechos en papel plegado. Algunos de ellos eran tan grandes y asombrosos que costaba creer que alguien lo haya ideado y hecho a mano. La creatividad en esta exposición no se terminaban.

Of course, this place also had plenty of food trucks, mostly offering Asian cuisine (I only realized on-site that it was an exhibition focused on things from that side of the world). There were several traditional options such as sushi, kani kama, and fish dishes, but the three of us chose to try a plate of noodles with soy sauce and lots of spicy seasonings. We actually went around Argentina’s usual afternoon snack time, when we would normally be drinking mate, so eating noodles at that hour felt a bit strange.

Por supuesto que en este lugar no faltaron los "food trucks", con opciones gastronómicas principalmente orientales (yo me enteré in situ que era una muestra de cosas de ese lado del mundo). Habían varias opciones tradicionales como sushi, kanikama y cosas con pescado, pero para los tres elegimos probar un plato de fideos con salsa de soja y muchos condimentos picantes. En realidad fuimos a la hora de la merienda de Argentina, en donde normalmente tomaríamos mates, así que comer un poco de fideos se sintió extraño.

But the exhibition wasn’t limited to just that—there were also other areas with sculptures, works of art, souvenir fairs, a stage with live music, and even a massage section. This entire event took place at the so-called Parque de la Estación, in the city of Avellaneda, 7 km from the City of Buenos Aires. Almost every weekend there are events like this, and even though I had already visited several before, they are all different and there is always something new to see.

Pero la exposición no se limitó solo a eso, sino que también habían otros rincones con esculturas, obras de arte, ferias de souvenirs, escenario con música y hasta una sección de masajes. Todo este evento se llevó a cabo en el llamado Parque de la Estación, en la localidad de Avellaneda, a 7 km de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires. Casi todos los fines de semana hay eventos como este, y a pesar de que ya había visitado varios anteriormente, todos son diferentes y siempre es posible ver algo nuevo.

Going on this outing truly relaxed me and prepared me for what would come next: an intense week at a new job. In the meantime, I really enjoyed the day listening to music, eating, and learning about bonsai. I didn’t feel nostalgic at all about having “closed” my backpacker stage; instead, I felt a kind of positive anxiety about beginning my professional career. Without a doubt, I experienced a huge mix of emotions when I returned from Corrientes, but I knew that sooner or later, everything would fall into place ❤️.

Hacer este paseo realmente me relajó y me preparó para lo que vendría luego: una semana intensa de un nuevo empleo. Mientas tanto, disfruté mucho del día escuchando música, comiendo y aprendiendo sobre bonsai. No me dio nada de nostalgia haber "cerrado" mi etapa de mochilera, sino que me daba ansiedad de la buena, el hecho de empezar mi carrera profesional. Sin dudas tuve una mezcla muy grande de sentimientos cuando volví de Corrientes, pero sabía que tarde o temprano, todo se iba a acomodar ❤️.
