Unforgettable punishment

Greetings People!

Let's all agree that the powerhouse of school punishment is in the public schools. I passed through that sector, and I saw hell on different occasions, which is now fun to look back at.

When it comes to the very punishment in school I can never forget, the one that comes to mind first would be the marathon flogging by our French teacher that tried to force the French language on us, but it didn't work. I had written so much about this already, so permit me to skip that story and come up with the next one.

We had a very no-nonsense maths teacher in SS2 class, no-nonsense in the sense that he easily picked offence at the slightest joke, even when it was something laughable for the oldest man on Earth.

He taught us Logarithm in Mathematics, but he was totally wrong in both the method of solving it and the final answers. His answers were always different from the ones in New General Mathematics , which we tried to follow their pattern. He would give us a problem to solve, we would solve it and get answers different from his, and he would get angry because it was obvious that we were trying to tell him that we knew better.

During one of the class days, one of us tried to explain to him, "Sir, the way you're solving this is very wrong. Text book patterns and answers are different, and also, other mathematics teachers have confirmed, so..." The student said that, and he got interrupted by the boiling teacher.

"Shut up there! Close that dirty mouth of yours! Don't you know mathematics has different ways to solve them?"

The class went into dead silence as we heard his angered voice.

Towards the end of the class, he gave us a class work, which we did on our own (accurate) way and submitted.
This man took his time to mark it in the class, and everyone failed—I mean, we got the wrong answer according to him.

He flared up, he instructed the class prefect not to allow anyone to leave, and he went out. We knew he was up to something, but we couldn't imagine that.

  • If it's flogging he wants to flog, his cane is in the class, so it can't be.

  • Does he want to cut us into pieces, that he went outside to bring a cutlass?

  • Did he go to call the principal on our case?

We pondered but couldn't come up with anything—until he returned within five minutes with bundles of canes in both hands. He went to borrow all the canes from his teacher colleagues.

"Oya! Everyone, put your head on the desk!" He instructed, and at that moment, we knew we were about to be sent to heaven.

We bent down, our heads on the desk, and our backs were open to him to feast his wrath on.

He began from a faraway row, and I was hearing sounds of lashing and smashing in a computerised manner as if he was a robot, landing on the backs of everyone, and shouts of cries were accompanying the lashes accordingly.

I expected a miracle to occur before he gets to my turn, I mean Miracle like; letting a higher authority person walk in, or him getting tired. But no way, such a miracle acted against my faith.

It got to my turn, and immediately he dashed me the stroke on my soft back. I got pushed to hell and lasted for 7 minutes before coming back.

Do you know what?
After the term, another maths teacher (a female) was assigned to us, and she took us through a continuation of that Logarithm topic. When we told her our deal, she angry and boldly told us that the previous teacher didn't know the topic. She proved everything, and that's when we mastered the topic.

It was so painful getting while standing on the right floor.

Thanks for reading.
