Devils on The Loose

In shadows deep where once dreams lay to sleep,
The devils dance, their merry, vile spree.
Upon the world, their twisted fingers creep,
And choke the breath of what was once free.

Their horns are sharp; their suits are tailor-made,
A mockery of human enterprise.
With glee, they watch the light of hope fade,
As innocence behind their laughter dies.

The sky, it burns with embers of distrust,
The streets, they crack with the weight of deceit.
Men's hearts, once full of love, now crumble to dust,
Under the devils’ ever-dancing feet.

Where once stood spires reaching for the divine,
Now twisted metal, greed's grotesque spine.

The candle flickers, a beacon in the night,
A tiny heart against the cold world's fright.
Its flame is small, yet holds the purest light,
An ember of faith in the endless fight.

But still, the devils run their wicked race,
Unchecked, unbound, in every hallowed place.
They whisper lies, sweet poisons laced with lace,
And revel in the chaos they embrace.

Where are now the angels that we seek?
The guardians of the meek, the strong, the weak?
The devils laugh as tears run down a cheek,
Faith is frail, and human will is bleak.

Yet, in the dark, a hopeful few still pray,
For strength to fight, to push the dark away.
The devils on the loose may have their day,
But in the end, it's light that will hold sway.
