The Documentary
So far, so good. The first day, as stated in my previous post, left much to be desired, and it didn't fill me with a whole lot of enthusiasm for the rest of the project.
Day 2
Yesterday changed everything and filled me with so much excitement for the coming days and the finished project.
I can see clearly where we are going with it, and I have a good idea of how it will look. The final result is going to be really good, but we still have to get there.
We managed to get 4 interviews, a new intro, some B-roll of the local bar we often play, and we managed to get a lot of candid discussions.
The 4th Coffee Shot Session was being filmed yesterday, and the crew managed to get a lot of good behind-the-scenes footage of us all working on shooting that episode... so we were essentially shooting ourselves shooting a show.
The Coffee Shop Sessions
During these sessions, we record 3 bands performing 3 songs each, and they also sit down after their 3 songs and do an interview with our hosts, where they can discuss themselves.
We have two new hosts now, and we were able to capture their first day on the job for the documentary, which was great.
They did a brilliant job and had instant chemistry and stage presence. That confidence, I feel, rubbed off on the performers they were interviewing.
The Coffee Sessions are more of an informal chat, rather than a clinical interview, and the new hosts embody that idea in the manner in which they host the show.
After finishing, I got a lift back home with my friend Sean, who is one of the crew helping me bring this to life, and he was amazed by all of the performers yesterday, and thought they were all great.
Sean doesn't mince words, and he never pretends something is good for politeness. In fact, even if he likes something, he'll sometimes say it's shit, and it's his reaction to the bands yesterday that gave me a big boost and let me know that what we're doing here is right.
I've known Sean since we were 7, so it's cool being able to work on this with him, especially since he has given it the nod of approval.
We both think this documentary is going to be big, but it's only since yesterday's shoot that he thinks so too.
I'm trying to juggle a lot of film stuff at the moment. I have a previous gig to edit and distribute to bands, I have the Coffee Session to edit, and I also have to review and place the footage of Day 2.
Also, I have a video I'm working on, separate from all of this, which I am hoping to finish and release within the next few weeks.
