Fugazi For Three Tune Tuesday

Fugazi are a band who I like, and listen to regularly, however, after a bit of an extended amount of time not listening to them, I've gone back, and got hooked.

I thought they only had two albums, but as it turns out they have something like, 5, or 6, which were recorded between 1989, and 2001.

Fugazi - Blueprint

This is the first bassline I ever learned on the bass, when I picked it up at around 15, or 16. It has always been one of my favourite things to play when I pick it up... I'm sure that I've annoyed Aimee more than a few times with this tune haha.

I just love the bassline, but the song in general is unreal.

"Never mind what's been selling! It's what your buying! And receiving undefiled!"

It's a brilliant song.

Ian MacKay plays guitar and vocals in this group, and before getting into Fugazi properly, I listened to Minor Threat, which he was the lead singer of and well know for. While I liked Blueprint, Waiting Room, and a few other songs, I never truly got into the band until my early 20's.

Fugazi - Bad Mouth

This is one of my favourite songs off their first album, 13 Songs, which consisted of two EPs they released, and later combined to make this one.

The entire album is a piece of work that everyone should just throw on and listen to once. The entire thing really feels like a jam, and I love when people allow themselves to play and produce something with a few warts.

It's okay to have a bit of dirt on your sleeves when it comes to music.

Fugazi didn't officially split up, but in 2003 they went on a bit of an unofficial hiatus and sadly they have yet to return from it, I'd love to see them live though, so I hope one day they get back together for even one final tour.

Fugazi - Burning Too

"Anytime but now! Anywhere but here! Anyone but me! I've got to think about my own life!"

Judging by the lyrics of the song, this is about climate change, and it's fairly damn effective at what it does. I don't really have concrete opinions on climate change, and I'm not really sure what, or who to believe.

A couple of years ago we were told in Ireland that we're going to get hotter, and dryer. Now, they're saying actually, we're going to get wetter.

On a micro level, maybe things are changing, but a pretty common sentiment now is, "where's the global warming?" As we're getting lashed out of it with rain during the summer months, as we always have.

It seems the specialists don't really know for sure what's going on, but since they're the only ones who know, we kind of have to believe them. What choice do we have?

I mean, we have to believe Nasa that the Earth is round, because the other option is some mad person strapping a go pro to a firework, or that mad person who launched themselves from a catapult to see if the Earth was flat.

All I know, is that I don't know nothing.

That lyric popped into my head, and now here's the song itself. Operation Ivy, what a band.

"All I know is that I don't know! And that's fine!"
