Keychain Multichain is now in Open Beta! 🚀

After weeks of internal testing and closed beta feedback, we're excited to announce that Keychain Multichain has officially entered Public Beta. This means anyone can now start testing the next evolution of Keychain and help us prepare for the final production release. We hope that you can have fun with it and start using Keychain to sign transactions on both Hive and EVM!

Since browser extensions don't provide a built-in beta channel, we had to publish a separate extension specifically for testing purposes. You can install it here:

The beta extension can coexist alongside your regular Keychain installation in the same browser. Still, you will need to disable the main version while you test to avoid double signing on Hive. You can also choose to use a different browser for testing purposes.

Migrating Your Accounts to the Beta

Getting started with the beta only takes a few minutes. To export all your accounts from your current Keychain installation:

1. Open Keychain
2. Open the Main Menu
3. Navigate to Accounts
4. Click Export
5. Select Export as an Encrypted File

This will generate an encrypted backup containing all your accounts. Next, install the Beta extension, and choose Import Accounts, then select the encrypted file you just exported.

⚠️ Important: The password used on the Beta extension must be the same password as the one used in your current Keychain installation. The encrypted export can only be decrypted if both extensions use the same password.

Once imported, you'll have access to all your accounts in the Beta extension and can immediately start testing the new Multichain features.

You can then create or import EVM accounts from the account dropdown.

What Can You Test?

This isn't a limited preview. The Open Beta already contains a large portion of the functionality we've been working on for months.

🌐 Full EVM Wallet Support

You can:

• Create or import EVM accounts

• Connect to EVM dApps

• Sign transactions

• Manage multiple chains from the same interface

🪙 Automatic Token Discovery

Supported networks automatically detect your tokens and balances without any manual configuration.

🪙 Multichain Swap (free during Beta)

Make sure to test our Swap service through Li.Fi, for which we won't charge any fee during the Beta testing phase.

🖼️ NFT Support

Your NFTs are automatically detected and displayed, allowing you to manage your assets directly from Keychain.

📜 Full Transaction History

Browse your complete transaction history across supported networks directly inside Keychain.

🔐 Ledger Support

Connect your Ledger device and securely sign EVM transactions using hardware wallet security.

👤 Hive Account Creation Using EVM Assets

One of the most exciting features in this Beta.

New users can create Hive accounts using assets from EVM ecosystems, significantly reducing onboarding friction and making Hive more accessible to users outside our ecosystem.

To try it out, go to the user dropdown > Add account > Hive > Create account, and select an EVM account to pay for the account.

⭐ Contacts

Manage frequently used addresses and accounts through the new contacts system.

⚡ Shortcuts

Quickly access your favorite actions through the new shortcuts feature, designed to improve productivity and navigation.

📌 Side Panel Mode

Do you want to see Keychain all the time? Now it can be used directly in the browser side panel instead of the traditional pop-up window.

Supported Networks

The following networks currently have full support, including:

• Automatic token discovery

• Automatic NFT discovery

• Full transaction history

• Metadata support

✅ Ethereum
✅ Arbitrum
✅ Base
✅ Optimism
✅ Avalanche C-Chain

And their respective testnets.

You can also use additional EVM chains, but it will need manual setup because of higher infrastructure and API costs for full indexing and discovery support. For now, you can add other EVM chains manually if necessary.

As our infrastructure expands, we intend to improve support for additional networks as well.

How You Can Help

Unlike traditional testing phases, we're not asking you to perform a specific checklist of actions. Instead, we want you to use Keychain Multichain as naturally as possible.

Experiment with your daily workflows. Adopt the same practices you use with other wallets for EVM chains. The most effective way to identify edge cases is by having actual users interact with the product in real-world scenarios.

We suggest using small amounts for testing at the moment. Although we are quite confident in the security measures we’ve implemented, it’s important to remember that this is still a Beta version.

If something doesn't work as expected, we want to hear about it.
