Several stalls in the form of very simple roof structures line both sides of the road near a river, or in fact, it is a floodway, in an area called Alue Naga, in Banda Aceh. It is one of those places that is devoted to selling various types of clams, oysters, crabs and mud crabs. They don't sell anything else. When I came to the place, there were only two open, so I chose one of them.

Here, all these water-derived protein sources are in great demand because of their deliciousness. In fact, clams that are locally called Kreung Gelungku, or Anadara antiquata and Anadara granosa, boiled and eaten with a special sauce, occupy the most popular place on the list of unique culinary delights.

There are several types of shellfish that are actually harvested from the water and the people here call each one according to its shape. The shells are harvested from riverbeds or stream beds where fresh and saltwater mixes and become brackish.

Anadara antiquata. As you can see this type of clam has hairs on its shell, so here it is also called hair clam.

If various shellfish are sold whole with their shells and later also boiled together with the shells, then the oysters are sold after having peeled their hard, sharp shells. The meat is collected and packed in plastic bags. Oyster meat is very soft and incredibly delicious. In some places, these oysters are also cultivated.

In addition, there are sea crabs and giant mud crabs. The latter are obtained from mangrove forest areas near the sea, and have an extraordinarily delicious taste. It's also often cooked with noodles, and its delight will stay in the memory.
