Methods of teaching (direct method)
The direct method which is also called natural method is a method for teaching foreign languages that only uses the target language, discarding any use of mother tongue in the calssroom. Translation is completely forbidden. Classroom activities are carried out only in the target language. In this method emphasis is put on correct pronunciation and grammar. And for vocabulary teaching, you can use objects, slide shows, maps, pictures, realia, pantomime and etc. It is good to know that direct method was one of the first methods to introduce the teaching of vocabulary through realia.
This method is based on question and answer so teacher isn't the sole speaker. Question and answers are in target language and students should give complete answers.
This method concentrates on communication which is achievable through conversational activities.
The teaching techniques rely mostly on:
1.reading text and powerpoint.
2.answering student's questions.
3.feeling in the blanks.
4.dictation
