The family is a group of people made up of individuals united, primarily, by affiliation or couple relationships.1 The Spanish Language Dictionary defines it, among other things, as a group of people related to each other who live together, 2 Which implies the concepts of kinship and coexistence, although there are other ways, such as adoption. According to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, it is the natural, universal and fundamental element of society, it has the right to the protection of society and the State

The main ties that define a family are of two types: affinity bonds derived from the establishment of a socially recognized bond, such as marriage4 - which, in some societies, only allows the union between two people while in others polygamy is possible - and consanguinity links, such as parentage between parents and children or the ties established between siblings who descend from the same father. The family can also be differentiated according to the degree of kinship among its members.

There is no consensus on a universal definition of the family. It is an anthropological concept that can be related to other concepts, such as clan, tribe and nation; sociological and even economic (minimum unit of business). The nuclear family, founded on the union between man and woman, is the main family model as such, and the structure disseminated mostly today; but family life forms are very diverse, depending on social, cultural, economic and emotional factors. The family, like any social institution, tends to adapt to the context of a society.5 The family can be a group of people who live under one roof, or it can be without living under the same roof.
