The Entertainment Box

As children our parents wanted the best for us, knowing fully well that we don’t have the whole world. Long time ago around when I was 5 or 6years old thereabout, my Dad got a new TV that was black and small. We no longer have that TV anymore because of how advanced things are now. We would watch movies through DVD sets attached to the TV. We also had cassettes and it’s own appliances to enable us watch movies. In my house it’s like ladder we follow in order for us to watch TV. My Father which is the King, my mother which is the Queen, then, followed by me; because I am in charge of my younger siblings as the first born.

We barely fight over watching TV because we know who is above Who. It was fun because my Father always put up some interesting movies or wrestling shows. He was a fan of WWE show, and he knows the superstars well. While my mother on the other hand, likes to watch local based Movies, Nigerian movies that were quite interesting but just poor graphics that looked weird or scary. At my end, I tend to look for cartoons to watch. Where I will always meet my classmates or friends from the neighborhood to help me with cartoon movies there parents got for them, because I didn’t have any money to buy so I have to borrow, knowing fully well my parents don’t like me doing so. I would hide the CD plates anytime me and my siblings are done with the cartoon movies so I don’t get caught and disciplined for it. Taking risk all the time just to please my myself and siblings.

Right about time, I thought! I didn’t know power (Electricity) would be taken away at the moment and the Cartoon movie I got from a close friend was inside of the DVD. I started sweating and shaking knowing fully well the consequences of my action. Thinking about my unlucky moment, power was brought back and I hurriedly took the CD plate out of the DVD. I had to be the luckiest boy that day, just because I wanted to use the entertainment box to build and fill my imaginations.

Right now I am a grown man, I just barely watch movies from the TV or argue over a remote. Now I have my phone and privacy.
