Getting help on steemit and steem.chat

Where/how is it appropriate to ask questions about using steemit and steem.chat? I'm new here.

Question: I know my steem.chat user and password, but every time I go to steem.chat/login, it asks me to select a user name, but gives me no way to enter my real user name and password. If I enter it, it just says it's already taken, duh.

While trying to fix this, I deleted all my browser cookies - which didn't help.
