Al Rauda Mosque in Maracaibo
This building is unique in the city and attracts the attention of those who observe it, since in a mostly Christian metropolis, its style and height stand out from other buildings.
Its construction began in the month of Ramadan (June) 1992 when it was founded by the Said El Hanafi Islamic Foundation, to provide a place of worship for those who profess the Islamic religion in the city and in the West.
It is a two-story high building, its columns, doors, windows and perimeter fence are of Moorish style and its white dome is of Arabic style.
The oratory hall, also painted white, is located as in all of them, looking towards Meca, 32 degrees north towards Lake Maracaibo., has an interior balcony that is an exclusive space where women go up with their hijab (veil) and tunic to pray.
The mosque is accessed through a staircase of 6 steps. It is of free use for its parishioners, some of whom, five times a day must raise praises to Allah, recite in Arabic verses of the Koran, and make supplications to live fully under the faith of Islam.
The Sheik or Imam Mustafa El Kashab, appointed by the Egyptian Ministry of Religion, leads the prayer in Arabic.
According to temple records, the number of followers has been increasing in recent years, and they are not only of Arab race or regional descendants of these but also of other races and religions that have converted to Islam.
It is located on 18th Avenue, at the end of Makro La Limpia, at the beginning of the main avenue of Primero de Mayo.
Its name "Al Rauda" in English means "The Garden".
