Dealing with impulsive buying
I have a tendency to make impulsive purchases, so I developed my own little seven-day theory to help me decide.
Day 1: I look at something, like it, and add it to my shopping cart.
Day 2: I do some research.
I check reviews, watch tutorials, look for alternatives, and think about the pros and cons.
Day 3: I casually mention it to friends or people I know.
Days 4 to 6: I check on it occasionally, just to remind myself what I’m thinking about.
Here's the key part.
If by day 5 I completely forget about it, stop thinking about it, or lose the urge to buy it, then I know I never really needed it.
But if I still think about it after seven days, still see a place for it in my life, and still want it even after the initial excitement has faded—then I go ahead and buy it.
Because apparently, if a desire lasts seven days, it’s probably not impulsive buying anymore.
It’s intentional buying.
The seven-day theory works most of the time.
Sometimes it doesn’t, especially when it comes to someone I love.
HAHAAHAHA
Sometimes I still give in and click checkout a little too quickly.
But yeah, that’s how I negotiate with my impulsive side before adding another book, perfume, electronics, or some random little comfort item to my collection.
