(ENG SPA) CAT-THEMED PENCIL HOLDERS 🎨🐈✨🌿

Hola a todos, compañeros creativos que forman parte de esta linda comunidad. Aquellos que quizás han visto mi contenido un par de veces por aquí se habrán dado cuenta de que he estado muy inactiva en los últimos meses, principalmente debido a asuntos y ocupaciones de la universidad. Sin embargo, acabo de entrar en época de vacaciones, así que estoy aprovechando para crear cosas que compartir con ustedes y también algunas para vender.

Hello everyone, creative friends who are part of this lovely community. Those who may have seen my content here once or twice might have noticed that I’ve been very inactive over the past few months, mainly due to university responsibilities and workload. However, I’ve just entered my vacation period, so I’m taking the opportunity to create things to share with you—and also some pieces to sell.

No creo que siempre pueda documentar paso a paso cada una de las cosas que haga durante este tiempo, pero sí espero poder compartir de forma práctica lo que resulte, sin estresarme ni desvivirme por ello.

I don’t think I’ll always be able to document every step of everything I make during this time, but I do hope to share the results in a practical way, without stressing myself out or overworking.

Vamos a comenzar tomando la medida de la parte inferior de los tubos de papel higiénico sobre la cartulina o cartón, para usarlos como base. Recortamos y, con pegamento blanco, silicona líquida o silicona caliente, unimos las bases a la parte trasera de los tubos.

Let’s begin by tracing the bottom part of the toilet paper rolls onto the cardboard or cardstock to create the bases. Cut them out and glue them to the bottom of the rolls using white glue, liquid silicone, or hot glue.

No sé si sea un súper tip, pero me he dado cuenta de que algunos rollos de papel tienen una forma irregular. Para que las bases encajen fielmente con la silueta, trazo en la cartulina y hago unas guías tanto en la base como en el rollo, para que coincidan en un punto específico y así poder pegarlas correctamente.

I don’t know if this counts as a super tip, but I’ve noticed that some toilet paper rolls have an irregular shape. To make sure the bases fit the silhouette accurately, I trace the roll onto the cardboard and make small alignment marks on both the base and the roll so they match at a specific point when gluing.

Posteriormente, tomamos una cartulina delgada para que se amolde a la silueta circular del rollo de papel. Cortamos pequeños triángulos de la medida y forma que deseen para hacer las orejas de los gatitos. Con el pegamento que elijan o que les resulte más cómodo, los adherimos a la parte interior de los rollos de papel.

Next, take a thin piece of cardstock so it can mold to the circular shape of the roll. Cut small triangles in the size and shape you want to create the kittens’ ears. Using whichever glue you prefer, attach them to the inside of the rolls.

Ahora que ya tenemos el cuerpo, llega la parte de pintar. En mi caso, esta vez no quise buscar muchas referencias, así que terminé haciendo lo que me imaginé para cada uno. Tenía más o menos una planificación de diseño sobre cómo quería que se vieran.

Now that we have the body, it’s time to paint. In my case, I didn’t want to look for too many references this time, so I ended up painting what I imagined for each one. I had a general design plan for how I wanted them to look.

Decidí hacer un gatito naranjoso, uno gris atigrado y uno blanco con manchas negras. Para el naranjoso, mezclé pintura naranja con un poco de amarillo y blanco, logrando una tonalidad suave y pastel. Al principio pensé que sería buena idea usar un naranja vibrante, pero luego no me sentí convencida y opté por un color más tenue.

I decided to make an orange kitty, a gray tabby, and a white one with black spots. For the orange one, I mixed orange paint with a bit of yellow and white to get a soft pastel tone. At first, I thought using a vibrant orange would be a good idea, but then I wasn’t convinced and chose a softer color.

Para el gatito gris atigrado, mezclé un poco de gris con pintura azul y violeta, creando un tono entre celeste y lavanda. Por último, pinté la base blanca, cubriendo todo alrededor y por dentro.

For the gray tabby, I mixed a bit of gray with blue and violet paint, creating a tone between sky blue and lavender. Lastly, I painted the base white, covering all around and inside.

Ahora llegó el momento de bocetear el diseño de los gatos en cada rollo. Ustedes pueden hacerlo con un lápiz de grafito o con un lápiz de color, según lo que les resulte más cómodo. Al de la carita blanca quise darle un aspecto de gatita mirando hacia un costado, con sus respectivas manchitas negras. Al gris le dibujé una expresión algo molesta o una mirada que juzga, pero sin dejar de ser adorable. Y al naranjoso le puse una expresión tontita. A cada uno le coloqué un pescadito entre sus patitas delanteras y traseras.

Now it's time to sketch the cat designs on each roll. You can do this with a graphite pencil or a colored pencil, whichever you find more comfortable. I wanted to give the one with the white face the look of a kitten looking to the side, with its respective black spots. I drew the gray one with a somewhat annoyed expression or a judgmental look, But it was still adorable. And I gave the orange one a silly expression. I placed a little fish between each of their front and back paws.

Con los marcadores acrílicos o la pintura al frío que tengan, toca rellenar cada parte que trazamos anteriormente. Comencé por las almohadillas de las patitas y las orejas, ya que ambos son rosados. Luego pinté los ojos de blanco, dejando espacio para colocar los iris en negro.

Using acrylic markers or cold paint, fill in each part you previously sketched. I started with the paw pads and ears since both are pink. Then I painted the eyes white, leaving space for the black irises.

Quise pintar los ojos con un marcador permanente negro; sin embargo, el mío estaba un poco gastado y pintaba azul. Utilicé tres marcadores distintos y ninguno me convenció del todo, así que al final opté por aplicar pintura negra a los iris con un pincel muy delgado.

I wanted to paint the eyes with a black permanent marker; however, mine was a bit worn out and looked blue. I tried three different markers and none convinced me, so I ended up painting the irises with black paint using a very thin brush.

Con ayuda de los marcadores acrílicos y algo de pintura al frío, me encargué de darles detalles personalizados a los gatitos: la parte atigrada en la cabeza y en las mejillas tanto del naranja como del gris, y las manchas negras en el caso de la gatita blanca. También utilicé pintura al frío para el hocico y las pancitas de los primeros dos gatos; mezclé un color piel con amarillo para obtener el tono que usé en el naranjoso, y para el segundo le añadí blanco, logrando un tono beige más claro.

With the help of acrylic markers and some cold paint, I added personalized details to each kitty: the tabby markings on the head and cheeks of both the orange and gray ones, and the black spots on the white kitty. I also used cold paint for the muzzle and belly of the first two cats; I mixed a skin tone with yellow for the orange one, and added white for the second, creating a lighter beige tone.

Por último, solo queda pintar a los pececitos que sostienen en sus boquitas. Decidí pintar cada uno de estos peces en un color que armonizara con sus pelajes: para el naranja elegí un verde; para el gris azulado, un amarillo caterpillar; y para el blanco, un tono de salmón fuerte que al secarse se convirtió en un rojo claro.

Lastly, all that’s left is to paint the little fish they’re holding in their mouths. I chose colors that harmonized with their fur: green for the orange kitty, caterpillar yellow for the bluish-gray one, and a strong salmon tone for the white one, which dried into a light red.

Ahora solo resta repasar los detalles con un marcador permanente de punta fina en color negro: las patas, los hocicos, los peces, las orejas y, en el caso del gato blanco, la parte alrededor de sus ojos.

Now just go over the details with a fine-tip black permanent marker: the paws, muzzles, fish, ears, and in the case of the white cat, the area around the eyes.

He decidido añadir un detalle bastante común pero innecesario: colocarles colitas en la parte de atrás. Si lo desean, podrían barnizarlos fácilmente; sin embargo, yo no lo he hecho esta vez porque, honestamente, no conseguí el barniz que preparé hace varios meses. Supongo que lo haré cuando logre encontrarlo.

I decided to add a very common but unnecessary detail: little tails on the back. If you want, you can easily varnish them; however, I didn’t do it this time because, honestly, I couldn’t find the varnish I prepared several months ago. I guess I’ll do it once I manage to locate it.

Por último para unir a estos tres amigos vamos a colocarlos uno al lado de otro tomar la medida que abarcan los tres juntos y hacer una tira con cartón resistente y la pegaremos en la parte de abajo, traten de redondear bastante los bordes de esa tira para que no sobresalga.

Finally, to unite these three friends, place them side by side, measure the width they cover together, and make a strip of sturdy cardboard to glue underneath. Try to round the edges of that strip so it doesn’t stick out.
