combat the sadness the soft melody;
when worries besiege, habitual,
Songs appease the mind, still.
Music is like that, remedy for evils,
inexhaustible fountain to pour every day;
peace of palaces, temperance of suburbs,
and placidity of the soul, harmonizing guide.
If you were to ask, what in the last hour
I long to hear again, my taste does not waver:
Aurora, from Panizza? Song to the Flag ??,
and the death of Isolde, the aria of Delilah,
also from Mephistopheles the Dantesque monologue
or the Choir of the Angels, deifying the Prologue.
