LOW-KEY PHOTOGRAPHY

Low key photographs are so called because they are photographs with a significant predominance of blacks and shadows.
In fact it doesn't necessarily have to have a black background, even outdoors with not much light it can be achieved by closing the aperture and very high speeds.

i first make the exposure of the background. i try a certain speed and a certain aperture and increase it until i have a completely black background. once i achieve it then i use flash or continuous light in a lateral way on the subject.

it takes a lot of patience and time as it is not easy. you have to try and try.

Low Key does not mean absence of light, but scarcity of light. In Low Key the photographer uses a minimum amount of light distributed strategically, directing it only to the parts of the subject or object portrayed that are of interest. In this case a remote flash would suffice. If the flash allows you to control its power, set it to low power.

You know what the best part is? You'll love your first High Key or Low Key photograph, but you'll improve your results each time you do a session. Believe me, each time you practice the technique again, you will master it more.

Here's my recent low key photography session
