“I’m not a baby, I’m a big girl.”
It has been exactly two months since I’ve written to you Nugget, and since then this has become a favourite phrase of yours. And wow, how accurate it is.
You now have full conversations with us, telling us about your day, things you want, are thinking about, are pretending… the list goes on. You are a lot of fun to talk with.
We celebrated many things these past two months, including Christmastime. You fell in love with many holiday songs, especially Jingle Bells and Frosty the Snowman (and you know a lot of the words and can sing them by yourself). I think these may have been your favourite part of the holidays—you certainly liked presents and decorations but the songs have stuck with you.
We saw lots of family and have been playing in the snow. As a big girl, we allow you some screen time now, and you are a huge fan of Peppa Pig. We have some funny pictures of you completely focused on this show and eating blueberries.
Your toilet training is going very well. There were some ups and downs since the last time I wrote, but as of today you have done all your ‘business’ in the toilet for about four straight days. Mom and Dad are very proud of you and your daycare is also quite impressed.
There are many routines that you enjoy, like how we go to bed. Or brush your teeth or get your hair washed. We have routines to go to daycare and how we get ready to go the car. But you are also quite flexible and willing to try new things. The other day, you and I rode the bus together for the first time! It was a short trip but you seemed to enjoy it.
We’re thankful for this, as many children do not like their routine disrupted. I mention this because some routines might change a little near the end of the month with Mommy’s work. I don’t think you’ll mind too much but it will be an adjustment for everyone. I’ll let you know how that goes.
You are becoming such an individual with her own opinions and thoughts, and it feels like it’s happening very fast and somehow slow at the same time. That’s partly why I write some of it down here, so we can reflect on it all later. Maybe I’ll go read some past entries right now.
Much love and Happy New Year,
Dad
This series of blogs is to catalog the memories, milestones, and reflections of parenthood. Perhaps one day you (the Nug) will be curious to read them! In the meantime, they’re a nice way for Dad to process this whole parenting thing. He’s a writer, so putting words out into the world is relaxing, therapeutic, and fun.
