Hola comunidad de Hive Food! Espero que todos estén muy bien. Hoy quiero compartir con ustedes una receta un poco diferente, porque no todas las experiencias en la cocina salen exactamente como las imaginamos, y creo que esos momentos también merecen ser contados. Tenía un poco de farofa que usaba para hacer arepas y no quería desperdiciarla, especialmente ahora que en Brasil es más fácil encontrar harina PAN en muchos supermercados. Así que decidí experimentar y preparar unos bollitos pelones utilizando esa farofa y una carne que había sobrado de un almuerzo anterior. El resultado no fue exactamente el que esperaba, así que podría decir que fue una receta semi fallida. Sin embargo, quedaron comestibles y, lo más importante, me dejaron varios aprendizajes. Hoy quiero compartir esos consejos con ustedes para que puedan preparar unos deliciosos bollitos usando harina PAN y evitar los errores que yo cometí.

Today I want to share a slightly different recipe because not every kitchen experiment turns out exactly as planned, and I believe those experiences are worth sharing too. I had some leftover farofa that I used to make arepas, and I didn’t want to waste it, especially now that Harina PAN is becoming easier to find in many supermarkets across Brazil. So, I decided to experiment and make some stuffed corn dumplings using that farofa and some leftover meat from a previous meal. The result was not exactly what I expected, so I would call it a semi-failed recipe. However, they were still edible and, more importantly, the process taught me several useful lessons. Today, I want to share those tips with you so you can make delicious dumplings using Harina PAN and avoid the mistakes I made.

Digo que es un semi fail porque la receta es funcional, pero mi gran error fué usar la farofa, claramente no es un ingrediente que pueda cocinarse en agua, de igual manera considero que los fracasos tambien se comparten, además lo que ustedes deben hacer es sustituir la farofa por harina pan, por ello en los ingredientes voy a mencionar harina pan y no farofa, para que a ustedes les queden los bollitos como debe ser, igual estuvieron comestibles mis bollitos, solamente debo dejar reposar más tiempo, hasta endurecer la masa.

I say it’s a semi-fail because the recipe works, but my big mistake was using farofa—it’s clearly not an ingredient that can be cooked in water. that said, I believe failures are worth sharing too. What you should do is substitute the farofa with bread flour, so in the ingredients list I’ll mention bread flour instead of farofa, so your buns turn out just right. My buns were still edible, though—I just need to let the dough rest longer until it firms up.

Comenzaré compartiendo la preparación de la carne que usé, está carne la hice unos días antes para un almuerzo y sobró un poco, para prepararla primero corté los vegetales, Lavé las papas y el cebollín y corté todo, machaqué los dientes de ajo, sofreí la carne junto al ajo, el cebollín y los condimentos.

I’ll start by sharing how I prepared the meat I used. I made this meat a few days earlier for lunch and had a little left over. To prepare it, I first chopped the vegetables, washed the potatoes and green onions, and cut everything up. I crushed the garlic cloves and sautéed the meat with the garlic, green onions, and seasonings.

Incorporé las papas y la pasta de tomate, también añadí 1/2 taza de agua, incorporé más laurel.

I added the potatoes and tomato paste, along with 1/2 cup of water, and added more bay leaves.

Ahora deben dejar cocinar hasta secar la salsa o espesar lo máximo posible, dejen enfriar, mientras tanto hagan la masa de los bollos, no comentan mi error si están en Brasil de usar farofa, usen harina pan de toda la vida, la masa es normal, agua, harina, sal y amasar, que quede una masa firme, tomen una porción y expandan usando las manos, coloquen relleno y armen sus bollitos.

Now let it cook until the sauce has reduced or thickened as much as possible, then let it cool, in the meantime, make the dough for the buns. Don’t make the same mistake I did if you’re in Brazil—don’t use farofa; use regular bread flour instead. The dough is standard: water, flour, salt, and knead until it’s firm. Take a portion and flatten it with your hands, add the filling, and shape your buns.

Coloquen suficiente agua en una olla y lleven a hervir, al romper hervor incorporen los bollos, estarán listos al flotan, saquen del agua, dejen reposar unos minutos y a comer.

Pour enough water into a pot and bring it to a boil. Once it starts boiling, add the dumplings; they’re done when they float to the surface. Remove them from the water, let them sit for a few minutes, and enjoy!

Aunque esta receta no salió exactamente como la imaginaba, me alegra haberla intentado porque cada experiencia en la cocina deja algo nuevo por aprender.
