The Forgotten Guild

Let's be true to ourselves. I can't remember reading the manual of a phone I bought last year nor the blender I bought to treat myself to a smoothie. I was so excited like a child being bought candy and didn't even focus on reading the manual. Most times it's tucked with the package or sometimes kept in the drawal for future use and most times I end up not using it even when I get stuck.

Do I actually read manuals after getting a gadget or product? The answer is no. I see it as a waste of time and sometimes I try to figure it out myself by asking some of my friends who might have happened to use the same gadgets before or sometimes I go through some videos on YouTube. Manuals which are supposed to serve as a guide on how to use a gadget or product are the most ignored booklet but most important. Most times we feel we know it all and try to figure it out our way and most times we use it when it gets already late or probably missed one thing and the other.

I could remember the day I bought a ring light. I was so excited about it. I unpacked it but was so confused on how to set it up. I tried to do it myself but got stuck at some point. I glanced through the manual but wasn't patient enough to read through the lines so I dumped it till whenever I'm ready to use it.

The second time I tried to set it up but before that I sat down to read through the manual, assembling all the accessories before I calmly set it up.

For us in this part of the world, reading a manual we see it as a waste of our time instead of going forward to do it ourselves and most times we get stuck and sometimes we bug our friends with how to figure it out when the answer is staring right at us.

Most times we feel it's unnecessary or outdated while there's useful information written behind. Most times we do it because we think we know it or it isn't important until something happens or we get frustrated at some point or something breaks then we revisit the manual and most times we likely find some features we aren't aware of that could make our life much easier.

So why don't you read every manual of the gadget or product you get! It doesn't require you cramming the lines. It's quite necessary you might actually be missing out on something or an important feature.
