(ESP-ENG) FROM | An enigma in every sense - Series Review Season 4.
Hello friends, good vibes to all.
FROM is one of those series where there comes a point where you ask yourself, "Why am I still watching this if I don't understand anything?" And yet, it's impossible to stop watching. I think we're looking at one of the best horror series made recently, and despite its "lack" of answers, it continues to resonate with people, who in turn end up completely hooked. But FROM is having a problem: it doesn't seem to be catching on with a certain generation, the so-called "TikTok generation." This is the generation that seeks immediacy in everything; for them, mysteries and enigmas have to be solved quickly, and if they aren't, they discard you, just like that; just like when you're watching videos on your phone, you don't like something, you swipe, and goodbye. Let me tell you, if you're like that, this series isn't for you.
This science fiction and horror production explores life in a town from which there is no escape, a place where things happen that defy all logic. There are paranormal events, but also very physical and tangible ones: mind control, shapeshifters, phenomena that truly lack any explanation. Throughout the seasons, the premise has always been the same: trying to escape the town, but to do so, they must first understand it. This is where the fourth season, which concluded last week, comes in. In this final installment, we see some questions answered, but at the same time, new ones arise, generating even more uncertainty, accompanied by new characters, in this case, one in particular.
A horror series usually has a villain, that antagonistic element that complicates everything or is behind it all. In this case, and this is the new element, the famous man in the yellow suit is finally given a leading role. He's the one who will start pulling all the strings so that this penultimate season begins to reveal answers and pave the way to the end, because yes, the fifth season will be the series finale. The cool thing is that Sophia (Julia Doyle) will be in charge of that. And I say cool because when you see her, the last thing you expect is for her to be the bad guy; making her seem so "innocent" is what makes everything so macabre. This is one aspect. The other is that the characters continue to be developed to the point that at the end of this season they reveal something crucial that could determine the story's ending.
The intensity of the terror never lets up; it's very well done because the entire context is disturbing, and when you add what we've seen this season, the result is truly incredible. Again, it's all based on something very difficult to grasp because nothing that happens makes sense, but that's precisely what distinguishes the series and why it's so good. It's raw when it wants to be, it's distressing, it's graphic with the deaths, all the characters are well-developed, and their evolution throughout the series is evident. And they always use cliffhangers—that strategy of not showing you everything just to keep you eager and waiting. Saying which season has been the best is complicated because they're all similar; they all have answers, but they end up generating more questions. This fourth season, in particular, is quite revealing in many ways.
Although it clarifies some things, it's still impossible to speculate because even the writers/producers don't know what the ending will be; they're just going with the flow. It's impossible not to think of Stranger Things and the possibility that something similar could happen with Fromville. Giving this series a fitting ending is essential, basically because the narrative they've built over the four seasons suggests that whatever is happening in Fromville is extraordinary and beyond all rationality; anything less than these expectations would be a failure. For now, I'll just say that this fourth season is very good. The series is one of the best out there, and the way it ended clearly leaves you with a ton of questions. It's 10 episodes full of mystery, horror, drama, and intrigue. 8/10. Those who haven't seen it yet still have time, but be sure to read the first paragraph I wrote first. The trailer is below.
¡Un abrazo a todos, nos vemos en la próxima!
Well folks, that's all for today. I hope you enjoyed it.
¡Hugs to everyone, see you next time!
