HIVE OPEN MIC #172 (ENG/ESP): Theme: Family - "Mother" by John Lennon!

Hello everybody on Hive and especially the Hive Open Mic Community! My name is Jasper and I'm writing (and singing) to you Cape Town in South Africa!

Welcome to Week 172 of the Hive Open Mic Challenge. The theme for this week is Family. I’m expecting lots of beautiful songs like “Dance with my Father Again”, “Butterfly Kisses” and “Daughters” (John Mayer) from the rest of you, so I thought I would try a song by John Lennon (solo, after The Beatles) called “Mother” which is very sad and seems to tackle the trauma and feelings of rejection, abandonment, and insecurity from not having a good family around you. (John Lennon was abandoned by his father at a young age, and his mother was knocked down and killed by a car when she was only 44 and John himself was still only 17.)

This song used to make me cry as a child… but if you listen to how it ends with John Lennon going very wild and guttural with his repeated refrain of “Mama don’t go! Daddy come home!”, it’s not hard to understand why…

Bienvenidos a la semana 172 del Hive Open Mic Challenge. El tema de esta semana es la familia. Estoy esperando muchas canciones hermosas como "Dance with my Father Again", "Butterfly Kisses" e "Daughters" (John Mayer) del resto de ustedes, así que pensé en probar una canción de John Lennon (solo, después de The Beatles) llamada "Mother", que es muy triste y parece abordar el trauma y los sentimientos de rechazo, abandono e inseguridad de no tener una buena familia a tu alrededor. (John Lennon fue abandonado por su padre a una edad temprana, y su madre fue atropellada y asesinada por un automóvil cuando solo tenía 44 años y el propio John solo tenía 17).

Esta canción solía hacerme llorar cuando era niño... pero si escuchas cómo termina con John Lennon volviéndose muy salvaje y gutural con su estribillo repetido de "¡Mamá, no te vayas! ¡Papá, ven a casa!”, no es difícil entender por qué…
