MUSIC: Three Tune Tuesday 89 - 3 Songs for our next gig feat. @clairemobey! (2 Covers + 1 Original!)

Hello everybody on HIVE, and especially the Music Community. My name is Jasper and I'm writing (and singing) to you from Cape Town in South Africa!

This is my 24th week contributing to "Three Tune Tuesday", an initiative started by @ablaze. It is week 89 overall!

I am trying to stick to a set pattern, where I perform 2 cover songs (written by famous artists) and 1 original song (written by me [or us in this case]) around a theme.

As I mentioned last week, I am really running out of original songs! So I figured, there is another little pot of original songs that I have access to, that my good friend @clairemobey has written, that we sing and play together in our collaborative duo called "MobeyDick". We both write and contribute songs to our duo, but I have sung most of mine already... with that said, I do help @clairemobey arrange and perform her ones and so I feel very invested in her songs too!

I went to go visit @clairemobey to practice for our first real gig of the year, which will be on 18 February. I decided, why not make a Three Tune Tuesday set while we practice and end off with a MobeyDick original that she wrote?

The 18 February gig will feature two sets of about an hour each. During that time we will probably only play about 4 covers, and the rest will be original songs...

Needless to say, the theme for this week's TTT is "Songs we will play at our next gig part 1"! (We hope to do another practice / TTT set next week as well!)

For the first song, how about "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" by U2? Let's do it! In DADGAD tuning! Here is the original version:

For the second song, why not sing something by a band that loves to use alternative tunings in their songs? "Iris" by the Google Dolls actually uses guitars in both standard and alternative tunings as well as a mandolin to build up this choppy wall of sound that was all the rage back when we were young teenagers! Here is the original version, which we've obviously had to simplify greatly:

Finally it's time for an original song that @clairemobey wrote, but that I am a band-member and collaborator on, in our duo "MobeyDick". The song is called "Demon's Lurk"! @clairemobey says she wrote it about an ex-boyfriend in her angsty teenage years... I am glad it is finally seeing light of day!
