Celebrating Chinese New Year

Happy Thursday, dear Hivers! Yesterday was the Lunar New Year or the beginning of a new year based on the full moon. As a Filipino-Chinese family infused in 2 different culture, we celebrate bother the English and Chinese New year. Simple dinner celebration and watching the fireworks is what we normally do.

For dinner, whole fish is ever present in Chinese New year as it symbolizes prosperity and luck. But what I always look forward in Chinese restaurants is their tea. I often get excited to guess the kind of tea the staff serves. This one is green tea.

Some Chinese families prepare an offering bowl consisting of sweet fruits, money, and other charms to welcome the new year. So far, we have yet to try this one.

Some people also visit the temple, burn an incense, and pray to God. In our place, I've only visited one temple, the Taoist Temple.

According to the Chinese Zodiac signs, this year is the year of the Fire Snake. It is believed that this year is about creativity and procreation mirroring the versatile characteristic of a snake. To other cultures, snake symbolize evil. But it's not necessarily the case in Chinese as the Snake also possess good characteristics. People Born in the year of the Snake are believed to be creative and spontaneous, which I think is true for my friend born in the year of the Snake.

There are also articles from masters and scholars that write about their top lucky Zodiac signs, lucky charms & lucky colors of the year. But regardless, I know that it is still our hands that holds the key to our own destiny. Being lucky just really helps.

That's it for today's blog. See you in my next one!

Sending some love and light

With love,
Jane
