24 hours public library

Following the turnover of duties to the newly elect officials last June 30, the mayor announced that the public library will now be open 24 hours contrary to just office hours.

On the second floor of the library is the Rizal Museum, but I haven't really visited the place since it's always close.

I remember back in college, this was my hide out when studying for major exams. Now, I came back not to study, but for my own leisure. As you know, they have hundreds of books- from psychological, history, cultural, and self help books available. There's even children's section available.



The best thing is that entrance is free. All you have to do is log your name and email in the log book. There are computers for research too.

My agenda for today is simply to have some reading time. So I grabbed some random books of my interest and started reading in the corner. There's something about the quietness of this library that entices you to read a book. Although most people here are students- from law or medical schools, studying for their exams.

The first book I started is entitled Burnt Toast by Teri Hatcher. There's nothing special about it. Just a mom who selflessly give her all to raise her kid alone.

On the first few pages, the author shared how she involuntarily dipped into the beach trampoline at the scorching heat of the sun and earned a deep cut, all because her kid wants to try the fun. Maybe that's how it is when you become a mother- you're willing to sacrifice everything for your child.

So much of that, I went over to the second book. This one is a memoir. I especially like memoirs or biography books because it shares the life story of someone remarkable.

This book is about the life of Coco Chanel, the world renown fashion icon. Her humble beginnings, from being adopted by her aunt's when her mother died and her father had a new family, to escaping the horrible household, and finally building her own independence. She truly is remarkable.

I wasn't able to finish the book due to lack of time, but I promise to pick this book again whenever I get the chance to come back.
