(ESP-ENG) I don't speak Chinese
Welcome, Hivers, to my new post. I’m taking advantage of the fact that my little one is sleeping to write a bit about what I’ve been up to. The title might sound strange, but I promise it makes perfect sense.
Thanks to my job, I’ve had the opportunity to explore, travel, and, of course, learn. Just check out the ABAE news, I invite you to stop by and learn more about what I’m talking about. In just one year, I managed to complete four courses certified by them and start two language courses.
The first was English, which I’m now at an advanced level in, though I know I still have a ways to go. I feel much more confident in this language. However, in the first class, I felt like a total beginner, as if everything I’d learned before hadn’t been worth anything.

On the other hand, I started a Chinese course, made it to the third level, and wasn’t able to finish it, but I’m determined to pick it up again when my daughter is older. Even though I haven’t been in the course and haven’t been able to resume it, I’ve been taking advantage of the time to review what I’ve learned, as well as getting ahead on at least the vocabulary I’m missing from level 3 and level 4.
I still don’t speak Chinese; there are very few things I can say easily, but I’m almost convinced that if I do speak it, people won’t understand me. I might even say one or more mispronounced words that end up meaning something else. So, for now, it’s better to keep saying, “I don’t speak Chinese.”
In my next post, I hope to get back to talking a bit about TV shows, movies, and books, even though I haven’t really been able to catch up on any of them. I did recently pick up “Wings of Starlight” by Allison Saft, though, and I’m still on chapter 5, it’s been a huge letdown. But I’ve had to adjust to motherhood and work, so I’ve made some progress. Have any of you learned a language in recent months?
