A veces el "no puedo" es pura mente 🧶 || Sometimes "I can't" is just in your head.

A veces uno mismo se frena antes de empezar. A mí me pasaba muchísimo con los amigurumis: los veía en fotos, me parecían una belleza, pero de una decía "no, qué va, eso no es para mí, tejer muñecos debe ser un dolor de cabeza y jamás me va a salir". Mi zona de confort siempre fue tejer ropa (blusas, prendas...), así que ni me planteaba intentarlo. Pero en octubre del año pasado no me quedó de otra que tirarme al agua.

Sometimes we talk ourselves out of things before we even try. That was 100% me with amigurumi: I’d see them online, think they were adorable, but instantly tell myself, "nope, no way, that looks like a total headache and I could never pull it off." My safe zone was always making clothes (tops, garments...), so I didn't even consider trying it. But back in October, I didn't really have a choice!

Una amiga que sí se dedica 100% a los amigurumis estaba tapadísima de trabajo. Un día me llamó casi que en pánico: "por favor ayúdame con estos pedidos que no doy abasto, yo te enseño y los sacamos juntas". ¿Y mi primer proyecto para debutar? Nada más y nada menos que los 5 integrantes de One Direction. Pasé de no haber hecho ni una pelotita tejida en mi vida, a tener que hacer 5 muñecos con ropa, peinados y detalles distintos.

A friend of mine who actually makes amigurumi for a living was completely drowning in client orders. She called me up almost in panic mode: "please help me out, I can't keep up! I'll teach you, let's just do this together." My very first project to debut? None other than all 5 members of One Direction. I went from never having made a single plushie in my life, to crafting five dolls with different outfits, hair, and details.

No les miento, destejí el primer cuerpito mil veces. Me frustré, me dolieron los dedos y en varios momentos pensé "¿en qué me metí?". Pero con la paciencia de mi amiga le fui perdiendo el miedo. Cuando por fin terminé el último y los puse a los cinco juntos en mis manos, no podía ni creérmelo. Al final, ese "no puedo" era pura mente. A veces solo hace falta un empujón (o una amiga que te arrastre) para darte cuenta de que sí eres capaz.

Not gonna lie, I frogged that first body a thousand times. I got frustrated, my fingers hurt, and I kept thinking "what did I get myself into?" But with my friend's patience, I slowly got the hang of it. When I finally finished the last detail and held all five of them in my hands, I honestly couldn't believe it. Turns out that "I can't" was just in my head the whole time. Sometimes you just need a little push (or a friend who drags you) to realize you can actually do it.
