Electrifying Killua – Vector Art Process ⚡🎨/ Killua electrizante – Proceso de Arte Vectorial ⚡🎨

Hey Sketchbook community! 👋

I’m back with a new fan art piece, and this time I decided to honor one of the coolest characters in anime history: Killua Zoldyck from Hunter x Hunter. 🔥⚡

Instead of my usual raster tools, I challenged myself to create this entirely in Adobe Illustrator. Here’s a breakdown of my vector process:

🖌️ 1. Base Sketch & Proportions:
I started with a rough pencil sketch directly on Illustrator (using a Wacom tablet). I focused on capturing his iconic spiky silver hair and that mischievous, yet deadly, smirk. Getting the jawline right was crucial—it had to be sharp but still youthful.

📐 2. The Vector Line Art (The Hard Part):
Using the Pen Tool (P) and the Curvature Tool, I traced my sketch. The trickiest part was his hair—creating those sharp, aggressive spikes with smooth, clean Bézier curves without making them look flat. I used variable stroke widths to give the lines a more "hand-drawn" manga feel.

🎨 3. Flat Colors & Shadows:
I applied his classic color palette: stark white hair, pale skin, and that mint-green tank top. For the shadows, I used the Pathfinder tool to clip shadows to the base shapes, giving depth to his neck and under his bangs. I also added a soft gradient to his skin to make him pop.

✨ 4. The "Godspeed" Glow Effect:
To represent his Nen ability, I added a subtle electric aura around his hands. I achieved this by drawing jagged yellow/white shapes and applying a Gaussian Blur (via the Effect menu) and setting the blending mode to "Screen" to give it a luminous, glowing feel against the dark background.

💡 5. Final Tweaks:
I added a dark blue, moody background to contrast with his bright hair and added some high-contrast highlights on his eyes and nose to make him look intense.

This was a great exercise in precision and patience. Vector art doesn’t forgive shaky hands, but I think the result was worth the effort!

Vuelvo con una nueva pieza de fan art, y esta vez decidí honrar a uno de los personajes más geniales de la historia del anime: Killua Zoldyck de Hunter x Hunter. 🔥⚡

En lugar de mis herramientas rasterizadas habituales, me reté a mí mismo a crearlo completamente en Adobe Illustrator. Aquí les explico cómo lo diseñé paso a paso:

🖌️ 1. Boceto base y proporciones:
Comencé con un boceto a lápiz directamente en Illustrator (usando una tableta Wacom). Me enfoqué en capturar su icónico cabello plateado y puntiagudo, y esa sonrisa traviesa pero mortal. Lograr la forma de la mandíbula fue crucial: debía ser afilada pero aún juvenil.

📐 2. El lineart vectorial (La parte difícil):
Usando la Herramienta Pluma (P) y la Herramienta Curvatura, calcé mi boceto. La parte más complicada fue su cabello: crear esas púas agresivas con curvas Bézier suaves y limpias sin que se vieran planas. Usé grosores de trazo variables para darle a las líneas un toque más "dibujado a mano" al estilo manga.

🎨 3. Colores planos y sombras:
Apliqué su paleta de colores clásica: cabello blanco puro, piel pálida y su camiseta verde menta. Para las sombras, usé la herramienta Trazado para recortar las sombras dentro de las formas base, dándole profundidad al cuello y debajo de su flequillo. También agregué un degradado suave a su piel para que resaltara más.

✨ 4. El efecto brillo de "Godspeed":
Para representar su habilidad Nen, añadí una sutil aura eléctrica alrededor de sus manos. Logré esto dibujando formas dentadas en amarillo/blanco y aplicando un Desenfoque Gaussiano (vía el menú Efecto) y configurando el modo de fusión en "Pantalla" para darle una sensación luminosa y brillante contra el fondo oscuro.

💡 5. Ajustes finales:
Añadí un fondo oscuro y azulado para contrastar con su cabello brillante, y agregué reflejos de alto contraste en sus ojos y nariz para darle intensidad.

Fue un gran ejercicio de precisión y paciencia. El arte vectorial no perdona las manos temblorosas, pero creo que el resultado valió la pena.
