Detalles que pasan #17. El nombre borrado. [Esp/Eng]
🇪🇦 En Español
¡Hola, querida comunidad de Holos-Lotus! 🌿

🌾 Details That Go Unnoticed #17
The Erased Name
There is a whiteboard in one of the hospital offices.
There is nothing particularly special about it.
Like many others, it is used to organize schedules, shifts, and notes that help keep the work running smoothly.
Most of the time, nobody pays much attention to it.
People look at it for a few seconds, check some information, and move on with their day.
A few days ago, I walked into the office to review some upcoming shifts.
While looking for some information, I noticed a colleague standing in front of the board.
She had an eraser in one hand and a marker in the other.
With a quick movement, she erased a name.
Then she wrote another one in its place.
The whole thing took only a few seconds.
—Did the shift change? —I asked.
—No —she replied without looking up much—. He doesn't work here anymore.
The conversation ended there.
She continued with her work and I went back to the documents I had come to check.
But before leaving, I looked at the board again.
That was when I noticed something that had probably been there from the very beginning.
Although the name had been erased, a faint shadow could still be seen on the white surface.
The letters were no longer readable.
It was impossible to make out the name.
But the mark remained.
A nearly invisible trace.
And for some reason, I kept thinking about it for the rest of the day.
The Trace
It made me think about how easily some things disappear.
An eraser.
A movement of the hand.
A few seconds.
And a name is gone from a place where it had been for months or years.
Yet people rarely disappear that quickly.
Sometimes we share hundreds of conversations with someone.
Long shifts.
Difficult moments.
Small victories.
Everyday problems.
And one day that person takes a different path.
They change jobs.
Move away.
Emigrate.
Look for new opportunities.
Or simply begin a new stage of life.
The chair they used is occupied by someone else.
Their name no longer appears on the schedule.
Their routine no longer crosses paths with ours.
And from the outside, everything seems the same.
But it is not exactly the same.
Because places keep something from the people who passed through them.
I am not talking about objects.
Or documents.
Or even photographs.
I am talking about habits.
Phrases we still remember.
Ways of solving problems.
Advice we continue using without realizing it.
Small traces that remain long after the person is gone.
I thought again about that whiteboard.
The new name fit perfectly in the available space.
Everything seemed orderly.
Everything seemed normal.
And yet, beneath the fresh letters, a faint shadow still survived.
Enough to remember that some absences do not disappear immediately.
Enough to understand that some people leave a part of themselves in every place where they have been.
Before leaving the office, I looked once more at that blurred mark.
And I thought that perhaps people are more like ink than we imagine.
Because there are names that can be erased in a matter of seconds...
but memories that take years to disappear.
