The blown-up bridge

The railroad bridge over the Gwda River in Jastrowie was built in 1914. It was constructed for the Jastrowie–Węgierce railroad line.

The total length of the bridge was approximately 60 m, its width was 4 m, and the span between the supports was approximately 40 m

The bridge was destroyed during the fighting for Jastrow. On January 31, 1945, retreating units of the 15th SS Grenadier Division blew it up. Due to a lack of sufficient explosives, the span of the railroad bridge merely slid off its abutments

The Russians dismantled the railroad line shortly after the war and transported it deep into the Soviet Union as German war booty. The bridge remained because dismantling it would have required too much effort.

I took these photos with a Pixel 9 Pro; they are JPEGs that haven't been edited in a third-party editor.
