Since I had that bad experience with imported coffee, several friends wrote to me to recommend a brand of coffee that is purely from Pinar del Río.

Café Cardentey is the first privately owned Cuban coffee brand. And what a source of pride to know that it is 100% from Pinar del Río. Grown and processed in Pinar del Río by its creators, Giselle Morales and Frank Yudel Rodriguez, a married couple who, in addition to sharing a love for their profession as doctors, have also managed to fulfil their dream of having their own coffee brand, step by step.

Giselle says that initially she was the most passionate about this project and encouraged her husband to realise what is now a reality. Years of meticulous study of the process that takes coffee from the plantation to the cup, investments, setbacks, support from family and friends...

I went to see them as soon as I learned a little about the history behind this brand. I took my film crew with me to shoot some footage that will soon be available on my YouTube channel.

They have opened a small shop in a very central location in the city of Pinar del Río. Despite its recent opening and all the obstacles imposed by the energy situation, it has already begun to attract a clientele of coffee lovers.

The place, located at Calle Recreo #21 / Calle Martí and Maximo Gómez (next to the barber shop 💈), is an experience that appeals to all the senses. The first thing you notice is the smell.

That unmistakable aroma of pure, top-quality coffee is already starting to change your day. And then, like a solemn ceremony, you watch as the coffee is ground, ready for you to take home in a bag or simply enjoy there, however you like.

There are several options available for purchase:

115g packs of pure ground coffee.
Specialised packs with degassing valve and 250g trilaminate packaging.

You can also buy a selection of the best Arabica and Robusta beans in bulk, which can be ground on the spot and weighed by the ounce.

But the best, most comforting thing is talking to these two coffee lovers, who can tell you everything there is to know about the product with the biggest of smiles. They can even recommend the most effective way to brew and enjoy your coffee.

Cardentey is more than just a coffee brand; it is an experience for anyone who visits the most aromatic corner of this city.

Café Cardentey es la primera marca privada de café cubano. Y qué orgullosa me siento de saber que es 100 % de Pinar del Río. Cultivado y procesado en Pinar del Río por sus creadores, Giselle Morales y Frank Yudel Rodríguez, un matrimonio que, además de compartir el amor por su profesión como médicos, también ha logrado cumplir su sueño de tener su propia marca de café, paso a paso.

Giselle cuenta que al principio era ella la más apasionada por este proyecto y animó a su marido a hacer realidad lo que ahora es una realidad. Años de estudio meticuloso del proceso que sigue el café desde la plantación hasta la taza, inversiones, contratiempos, apoyo de familiares y amigos...
