Hola Hive [ESP-ENG]
Hola, comunidad!

Hello, everyone! I hope I’m warmly welcomed into this community.
My name is Nelson Eduardo Alfonso Martínez. I’m 26 years old, a physician, and I truly believe medicine is the most beautiful profession in the world. I’m currently a third-year resident in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and Burn Care.
I’m the youngest of three siblings, and ever since I was a child, I was known for being quiet and calm. In fact, my nickname in preschool was "The Fox." As I grew up, I started practicing karate, a sport that taught me the importance of discipline, perseverance, and respect—values that continue to guide me every day.
Later, I attended José Martí Pérez High School, where I graduated with excellent academic results. When it was time to choose a career, I faced a lot of uncertainty. I come from a family of engineers, but my mother’s greatest dream was to become a doctor. Unfortunately, she couldn’t pursue that dream because she became pregnant with my older brother. In many ways, I chose medicine to honor her dream, and it turned out to be one of the best decisions of my life.
Medical school was six and a half years of sacrifices, sleepless nights, unforgettable friendships, and countless life lessons. During that time, the COVID-19 pandemic changed everything, and I had the opportunity to serve on the front lines as a medical student. That experience shaped me not only as a future physician but also as a human being, teaching me the true meaning of compassion and service.
After graduating as a doctor, I wasn’t completely sure which specialty to pursue. I was always drawn to three fields: Plastic Surgery, Cardiology, and Orthopedics. I was even preparing to begin my career as a family physician in Gibara when I received a phone call that changed my life.
Someone told me, “Nelson, there’s an opening in Plastic Surgery. You’ve always liked it, and I think you’d be great at it.”
I didn’t hesitate. Something inside me told me to take that opportunity. Today, I’m proud to be a third-year resident, and my goal is to become an outstanding plastic surgeon while continuing to grow both professionally and personally.
Outside of medicine, I enjoy dancing, traveling, and playing video games—although residency has forced me to spend much less time gaming than I used to. Deep down, I’m still a quiet and introverted person, but over the years I’ve learned to express myself much more. In fact, most people don’t believe me when I tell them I used to be extremely shy.
I discovered this platform thanks to a urologist who introduced me to it, and today I’m excited to introduce myself to all of you.
I hope we can share experiences, learn from one another, and build meaningful connections.
The photos I’ll be sharing are part of my collection of memories and experiences that have shaped who I am. I hope you enjoy them!
Thank you for having me!
