Weekends

Magandang buhay❤️

It's the weekend, and we woke up early as we do on weekdays. The sun's shining, yay!

Anyway, I was reminded of this week's Liotes mission, where it asked what an ideal weekend looks like for us.

Back when the hubby and I were in the 9-5 lifestyle, it was more rest, recreation, screen time, and well, food. It's different this time, especially since we no longer answer or report to a boss, and we are both middle-aged folks who still have aspirations in life.

It's funny, though, that our first notion of our early retirement is the time when we hit the brakes and have many really lazy days at home. Where we wake up late and do almost nothing. Well, we kinda did that for the first few months of our unemployment, when we often met friends, went out for food, explored some places, and stayed mostly unproductive. Oh, it wasn't what we imagined. The lack of mental and physical activity eventually made us sluggish, unmotivated, bored, and feel empty.

We sought better things to do. We set up a few businesses—a computer shop, a snack house, and a KTV bar—which we eventually sold after just a couple of years because we realized they were not what we wanted to do for the rest of our lives. We then went into wholesale and retail, but we sort of "lost" our ideal downtime.

We couldn't set boundaries since every day is buzzing with produce from people who trusted our selling vibe. We passed on the job to my June brother, and he turned it so big and made it his livelihood to this day.

Oops, I digressed.

The thing is, we don't really hit the full brake when we retire from our jobs. How dull life would be if we did. There is that inner yearning to stay active and creative.

When we came to the countryside, we learned to turn our everyday into a weekend, where we get to do random, unscheduled things, mostly productive, yet leisurely. Our lazy days don't really mean lazy in the real sense (although we get to have such at times). They are a mix of work, rest, having fun, time with nature, and, of course, food.

And while some things changed over the years, one fundamental factor remained—finding pleasure in whatever we do. And that makes our weekends (or rather our lives) a lot more satisfying.
