A homogeneous mixture of two or more substances is called a solution.

A solution , which is prepared by mixing only two substances is called binary solution.

A binary solution consist of two components.

⚫⚫Solvent⚫⚫

⚫⚫Solute ⚫⚫
The solute is a substance that dissolves in a binary solution , solute is that component of the solution which is present in small quantity.
For example:
In a 5% sugar solution in water, sugar is the solute.

⚫⚫Solvent ⚫⚫

          The solvent is the substance in which the solute or solutes dissolve and it forms the bulk of the solution.

In a binary solution, solvent is that component of the solution, which is present in large quantity.

For example

In a 5% sugar in water , water is solvent.

Most common solvents are liquids like water , alcohol, petrol, carbon disulphinde
Mercury etc.
A solution is named on the name of the solute.
For example 5% sugar solution in water will be named as sugar solution.
