That Moment
I heard my name… but I didn’t turn back.
I was already walking away when the voice came again, a bit louder this time.
“Wait.”
I slowed down slightly… but not enough to stop.
I knew who it was.
And I knew why he was calling me.
Earlier that day, something had happened between us. Small… but not really small.
I had said something I shouldn’t have.
At the time, it didn’t feel like a big deal. Just words, said quickly, without thinking too much about it.
But the look on his face after that stayed with me.
I noticed it.
I just didn’t do anything about it.
Now he was calling me.
And I knew what this was.
A chance to fix it.
I could stop.
Turn back.
Say something simple.
Clear it.
But something held me.
It felt uncomfortable.
Awkward.
I didn’t even know what I would say.
So I kept walking.
The footsteps behind me slowed… then stopped.
The voice didn’t come again.
I told myself it was fine.
That it wasn’t that serious.
That we would talk some other time.
Later.
I kept moving.
But something about that silence behind me didn’t feel right.
Still… I didn’t turn.
The next day, I didn’t see him.
Not the day after that either.
At first, I didn’t think much of it.
Until I heard what happened.
