Comfortable Mistakes

The bus stopped, and people rushed to get down.
I stood up with everyone else, ready to step down.

Then I noticed this wasn't my stop
I hesitated for a second, but people behind me were already pushing,
then sat back down.

A man behind me asked why I wasn’t moving.
I didn’t answer.

The bus moved again.
At the next stop, people argued with the conductor.

They had gotten down too early.

I stayed quiet, watching through the window as the bus pulled away.

That day didn’t teach me something new.
It reminded me of something easy to forget.

Moving with the crowd feels safe.
Until you realize safety and correctness are not the same thing.
