Nunca es tarde para aprender [Esp - Eng]

Tengo casi 25 años y recién ahora es que estoy aprendiendo a montar una bicicleta. De niña nunca me enseñaron porque no se dió la oportunidad, además de que mi mamá tampoco sabe. A ella no le enseñaron porque mi abuela decía que ya ella caminaba mucho y que si aprendía a montar bicicleta mas nunca la volverían a ver.

Montar una bicicleta es bien sencillo. Es cuestión de equilibrio y de ir teniendo confianza. Después de decir mamá y papá, es lo próximo que se aprende. Este verano ha sido épico, (lo está siendo). Después de salir de la enfermedad y de la cama, he podido volverme ejemplo de que nunca es tarde para aprender.

Aprender es parte esencial de quien tiene vida. Hasta los animales aprenden cuando algo se les repite o se vuelve rutina. Mi gata sabe que cuando mi mamá camina hacia la cocina, es porque ya va a servir algún alimento y hasta llega primero que ella al fondo de la casa.

Cuando se aprende el cerebro trabaja el doble, porque tiene que poner atención, memoria para grabar cada paso en el orden correcto y luego habilidad para ejecutar lo que se aprendió. Es verdad que cuando mejor se aprende es cuando se es pequeño, porque suelen decir que los niños son "como esponjas" porque todo lo aprenden rápido y más fácil.

La vida misma es un aprendizaje constante.

Con respecto a la bicicleta, sé de personas que aprendieron con más edad que yo. Mi abuelo, por ejemplo, aprendió con 40 años, y mi vecina con treinta y pico de años también. Con respecto a ellos soy más joven, pero mayor que la gran mayoría para hacer eso ahora.

A mí me ha costado un poco de trabajo lograr equilibrio y perder el temor a que me soltaran; (de eso puedo hablar otro día). Vista al frente, espalda recta y no dejes de pedalear. Noté que iba sola gracias a la sombra. Ahora, lo más curioso, es que quien me está enseñando es mi vecino que ahora va para último año de primaria. Varias veces he mencionado que aprender, se aprende de todo el mundo, y es lindo poder aprender también de los niños, y ver cómo tienen la paciencia para enseñarle a un adulto.

Lo otro que estoy aprendiendo es idioma chino, pero eso sí es por mi cuenta. Después de descubrir en un momento de diversión que no estaba pronunciando tan mal, decidí tomarlo un poco más en serio y empecé a dedicar unos minutos (cuanto más una hora del día) a aprender este idioma. Difícil sí es, me cuesta más escribir que pronunciar y repetir lo mismo que escucho de la aplicación. Es un hecho que en materia de idiomas también es más fácil aprenderlos de pequeño, pero decidí apostar también por lograr eso, al menos lo más básico.

Sería bonito poder comunicarse en un cuarto idioma después del inglés y el francés, y el español que es el que me ha tocado como nativa; pedir un café, decir mi nombre, y frases sencillas.

Aprender lleva dejarse guiar, disciplina, constancia y algunas veces sacrificios. De aprender nunca se termina, y creo que es maravilloso, porque hay tanto que desconocemos e ignoramos, que nos va la vida tratando de saberlo todo. El conocimiento no ocupa espacio, facilita muchas cosas y nos ayuda a ser mejores personas. Entonces, si hay algo nuevo que te llame la atención y aún no lo sabes: apréndelo, no te rindas, persevera y triunfa.

I'm almost 25 years old and only now am I learning to ride a bicycle. As a child, I was never taught because the opportunity never came up, and besides, my mom doesn't know how either. She wasn't taught because my grandmother said she already walked a lot, and if she learned to ride a bike, they'd never see her again.

Riding a bicycle is quite simple. It's a matter of balance and gaining confidence. After saying "mom" and "dad," it's the next thing you learn. This summer has been epic (it's still being). After recovering from illness and getting out of bed, I've been able to become an example that it's never too late to learn.

Learning is an essential part of anyone who has life. Even animals learn when something is repeated or becomes routine. My cat knows that when my mom walks toward the kitchen, it's because she's about to serve food, and she even gets there before my mom does at the back of the house.

When you learn, your brain works twice as hard because it has to pay attention, use memory to record each step in the correct order, and then develop the skill to execute what was learned. It's true that you learn best when you're young, because they say children are "like sponges" —they learn everything quickly and more easily.

Life itself is constant learning.

Regarding the bicycle, I know people who learned at an older age than me. My grandfather, for example, learned at 40, and my neighbor in her thirties as well. Compared to them, I'm younger, but older than the vast majority of people learning to ride now.

It's been a bit hard for me to achieve balance and lose the fear of being let go (I can talk about that another day). Eyes forward, back straight, and don't stop pedaling. I noticed I was going alone thanks to my shadow. Now, the most curious thing is that the person teaching me is my neighbor, who is now going into his last year of elementary school. I've mentioned several times that you can learn from anyone, and it's beautiful to learn from children too—and see how patient they are teaching an adult.

The other thing I'm learning is Chinese, but that's on my own. After discovering in a moment of fun that I wasn't pronouncing it so badly, I decided to take it a bit more seriously and started dedicating a few minutes (up to an hour a day) to learning this language. It is difficult—I find writing harder than pronouncing and repeating what I hear from the app. It's a fact that with languages, it's also easier to learn them young, but I decided to bet on achieving that too—at least the basics.

It would be nice to be able to communicate in a fourth language after English, French, and Spanish (which is my native language)—to order a coffee, say my name, and use simple phrases.

Learning requires letting yourself be guided, discipline, consistency, and sometimes sacrifices. Learning never ends, and I think that's wonderful, because there's so much we don't know or ignore that we spend our lives trying to know everything. Knowledge takes up no space, facilitates many things, and helps us become better people. So, if there's something new that catches your attention and you still don't know it: learn it, don't give up, persevere, and succeed.
