Cleaning Out the Cold Frame - June 26, 2026@goldenoakfarm
On Friday morning I didn’t get up early as it was raining off and on. I got caught up on my posts and got the laundry folded but not put away. I cleaned up the kitchen and then just rested until my #3 helper came at 12:30PM.
The big job of the day was cleaning out the cold frames. A lot of the heat burnt plants from the day I forgot to open the cold frame covers had died and some had just been in the cold frame too long. I also wanted to sort the herbs and flowers into separate trays so I could more easily find things. There were a lot of pots that went into the compost bins.
Mulch hay left for the New Herb garden
I could have gotten everything into 1 cold frame, but for ease of access I just put trays on the edges. This job took us about 1½ hours to finish.
She had an errand to run for me and then started watering house plants when she got back.
There are several that are flowering now. In addition to the above, the begonia and the oxalis have flowers too.
I rested a while then helped get the living room plants done. That was it for me for the day.
The parsley I had bought had been in these pots and had done really well. So I decided to save them and try starting parsley in them next year. So I had her start washing them up until it was time to go.
I just sat and read until bedtime. I had the sprinkler going in the Big garden and had to wait until it finished. The house was left open because we’ve got a long term heat wave coming in.
On Saturday I plan to clean out the South garden and get flowers planted in it. As soon as the grass dries I have to mow the yard. It’s not bad but with the rain it will be lush. It’s to hit mid 80’s and the humidity is starting to get high.
