Why post-it notes are useful
What is a post-it note?
Post-it notes are a multi-purpose communication medium. They can be used by individuals or by groups of people working on common goals. They can be used as reminders or memory prompting. They can be used for brainstorming or mapping out plans for projects. The limiting chord is how you conceptualise the information.
The most useful feature of post-its is the ability to move them around and stick them to things. Otherwise they would just be over-glorified yellow paper. The ability to move is what makes them king. A main function that humans can perform is categorisation, we categorise objects in order to find patterns. The movable nature of post-its enables us to use them as highly portable categorisation media to efficiently find patterns.
Incorporate notes into your repertoire of tools
Stick onto your computer monitor.
Brainstorm on walls and doors. Make sure to take pictures.
Attach notes to objects they are related to.
Having post-its amongst your bag of tools will provide you with the means to brainstorm and categorise your way to achieving your goals.
Post-its and the future:
Something I am really excited about is the future involving augmented and virtual reality technology. For those that haven't read the book ready player one, I highly recommend it, as it is a fiction book that delves into dystopian world where everyone lives out their days inside virtual reality as well as real life.
I think that an augmented reality program with the ability to attach something like a post-it to any 3d object you see and be stored in memory would be a revolutionary technology. This could have a mountain of uses such as road signs, warning signs, storing historic information and so many more. The future is very exciting for me to think about and I can't wait to experience all the new virtual reality software and hardware that will be released.
