Description: perennial herbaceous plant.
Minimum cultivation temperature: 10 °C.
Balsamic period: November.

Toxicity: low, interacts with gastroprotectors. Do not take Curcuma longa supplements during pregnancy and breastfeeding, always consult a doctor before taking phytotherapeutic preparations based on this plant.

Beneficial properties: cholagogue, choleretic, digestive, antispasmodic, immunostimulant, anti-inflammatory and hepatoprotective.
Confirmed activities: food (rhizome).
Active ingredients: curmerone, atlantone, curcumin, diferuloylmethane and starch.

PREPARATIONS

Officinal tincture: prepared with 9 g of turmeric and 1 g of black pepper, macerated for 21 days in 100 ml of 62° hydroalcoholic solution. The filtrate can be preserved for 3 years, 30 drops per day for the beneficial functions.

NOTE
Curcumin is not soluble in water, pepper increases its assimilation and antioxidant effect. The term turmeric derives from Kour Koum which in the Indian language means "saffron". For this reason the spice is also known as Indian saffron. Symbol of prosperity, it is considered a lucky charm. In India, brides-to-be wear a pendant with the rhizome of the spice around their neck.

In India le promesse spose portano al collo un ciondolo con il rizoma della spezia.
