Ivy - my phytotherapeutic experience

ENG

Good morning everyone, today I would like to share with you my personal experience in using ivy as a phytotherapeutic remedy.

EDERA.jpg

Description: climbing liana.

Minimum cultivation temperature: 5 °C.

Balsamic period: July.

Toxicity: high, the leaves can cause allergic reactions, the berries are very toxic and can lead to death by respiratory depression.

Beneficial properties: cough repellant.

Confirmed activities: poisoning.

Active ingredients: hederin, hederacoside, rutin, rutoside and rutinoside.

PREPARATIONS

The Italian Ministry of Health allows the intake of phytotherapeutic preparations based on ivy in very rare cases, the use of extracts in cosmetics is more common.

NOTES

In a study by Prof. Trute in 1997, the cough repellant action of the extract was comparable to that of papaverine, however the risks related to toxicity were too high and its use was almost completely abandoned.

The decoction of ivy leaves was used in the Middle Ages to wash woolen clothes.

PREPARAZIONI
