Due to concerns about robberies and assaults, I always go with a friend. On this occasion we decided to visit the Santiago de Cuba Cemetery, Santa Efigenia. For those who do not know, this is one of the most relevant cemeteries in Cuba, where several martyrs of our nation rest. Debido a la preocupación por los robos y asaltos, siempre voy acompañado de un amigo. En esta ocasión decidimos visitar el Cementerio de Santiago de Cuba, Santa Efigenia. We didn't have that intention when we went. We were not even aware that witchcraft practices were carried out in this place. It was something we discovered as we entered the cemetery.

The entrance to the cemetery is really beautiful. The most notable martyrs of the country are found there, and then long corridors extend surrounded by tombs and some trees. However, as we went deeper and the afternoon fell, the atmosphere became a little thick. The deteriorated tombs were more frequent, the corridors became narrow and the silence felt heavy.

At that moment, we were near the crematorium; vandalism had damaged the corners of some graves. Although they had not been opened, the cracks were large enough for me to insert my hand. I had the idea to turn on the phone's flashlight and get closer to discover what was inside.

A pesar de todo, con la cámara en mano continuábamos capturando imágenes, aprovechando los últimos destellos de luz. En ese momento, nos hallábamos cerca del crematorio; el vandalismo había dañado las esquinas de algunas tumbas. Curiosity drove me. So I slowly moved my hand towards the darkness until a loud noise emerged from the tomb. It wasn't a scream or a word, but it was enough to paralyze me for a minute or two. I'm not sure. Time stopped and I couldn't move.

My mind was trying to calm me down. I thought it might have been my friend who made that sound to scare me. When I finally managed to turn around to ask him, I found him in the center hallway. He had also heard the noise and had decided to run...

We weren't terrified, we were just processing what happened in our own way. He began to perceive higher-pitched sounds that his mind distorted, although he sometimes joked that if it weren't for his presence, I could have become another statue in the cemetery. And the truth is that he was right.

No estábamos aterrados, simplemente procesábamos lo ocurrido a nuestra manera. Él empezó a percibir sonidos más agudos que su mente distorsionaba, aunque en ocasiones bromeaba diciendo que si no fuera por su presencia, yo podría haberme convertido en otra estatua del cementerio. Y la verdad es que tenía razón.

Despite this experience, we continue visiting cemeteries, always from an artistic perspective, although at least for me, curiosity leads me to explore a little further.😅

A pesar de esta experiencia, seguimos visitando cementerios, siempre desde una perspectiva artística, aunque al menos yo, la curiosidad me lleva a explorar un poco más allá.😅
