Scars and Kindness

While waiting for the rain to settle down, I decided to rest for a while in one of the covered waiting areas near the bus stop. The floor was still damp, the air a bit cold, and everything felt a little gloomy. Then this stray cat slowly walked into my frame.

At first, I just watched him quietly as he started cleaning himself, like it was the most normal thing in the world. When I looked closer, I noticed something else. His face and limbs had small healed cuts and scars. They didn’t look fresh, but they were clearly signs that life hadn’t been easy for him. Maybe he was abused, maybe he got bullied by other animals. Whatever happened, it left marks.

Despite that, he still looked alert and quite healthy. There was a certain toughness in the way he stood and stared back at me. He felt like a survivor.

A little later, I saw an old man walk over and place some food on the ground. The cat went straight to it. That simple act changed the whole scene for me. Just a moment before, I was feeling sad looking at his scars. But seeing someone take care of him, even in a small way, made me feel lighter.

I chose to capture this moment in black and white because it matches the mood—quiet, honest, and raw. No distractions, just the cat, his scars, and his strength.

Sometimes street photography is not just about interesting scenes. It’s also about tiny stories of kindness that happen in the background, reminding us that even if the world can be harsh, there are still people who care.
