Patterns, Lines, and Rough Surfaces

Black-and-white photography has always been interesting to me because it is not only about strong contrast between light and dark. Sometimes, what makes an image stand out is the texture that slowly becomes more visible once the colors are removed.

I noticed this again while taking these photos. The subjects were very ordinary things that I saw around me. A rough metal surface, repeated circles on the floor, the uneven pattern of tiles, and even a group of wooden sticks. In color, I might easily ignore some of these subjects. But once I imagined them in black and white, I started to see their photographic potential.

This is one reason why I enjoy looking closely at simple things. I like images with unique textures. It could be geometric and repetitive, or it could simply be rough and imperfect. There are times when random scratches, old surfaces, and uneven details become more interesting than perfectly clean objects.

The way I approach photography often involves experimenting with ordinary subjects and seeing whether editing or a different angle can reveal something more interesting, which is also something I have explored in my previous photography posts.

I think black and white helps me focus more on these details. Without color competing for my attention, the lines, shapes, shadows, and surfaces become the main subject of the image.

Maybe texture is another kind of contrast. It doesn't always have to be bright against dark. Sometimes, smooth against rough or order against randomness is enough to make a photo interesting.

These are my texture experiments for today.

Have a nice day ahead!
