Feathered Encounters: Briefly Seen, Forever Held

Sometimes it's only a fraction of a second in which you have the opportunity to photograph a bird. These photos are such fleeting moments. My primary focus at the moment isn't really on photographing birds. Often they simply disappear far too quickly, and by the time I get the camera right, it's all over again. I often sit for long periods in different spots in the forest, but when we're talking about birds, my patience is very limited. Nevertheless, I'm happy to be able to get a snapshot every now and then.

Like this little sparrow here. It was sitting on a garden fence and had obviously just caught an insect. I wasn't far away from it. I estimate it was 5-6 meters, if that. It was almost proudly presenting its prey.

Each of these encounters was like a brief glimpse into the vibrant hustle and bustle of nature. It also shows how much activity is going on around us, and if we pause for a few moments, it's fun to watch this activity. Even though bird photography is a bit of a challenge for me, these spontaneous shots are still a lot of fun. I try to shoot in manual mode as often as possible, but when it comes to birds I reach my limits. So I think I'll at least leave the ISO value on auto soon and concentrate more on shutter speed and aperture. I've already experimented with it a bit, apart from birds, and it actually worked really well. Even though the ISO was on auto, there wasn't much noise in the pictures.
