If I ever go blind, what aspects of my life would I miss? Weekend #273
The topics for the weekend are amazing, but since we can only pick one, I’ll be picking the first question: “If you went blind overnight, what aspects of your life would you miss the most?” The answer is MY SIGHT May God forbid bad things. You see, these eyes that we often take for granted are truly the most valuable part of the body. The eyes are the light of the body, and my prayer is that my eyes will never go dark before my time on earth.
What would I miss? My sight is what gives me independence, and being independent is what I would miss the most. Let me share this experience with you. When I was growing up, there was this grandfather who lived beside our house. Abiodun was the name of the grandchild who stayed with him then. This grandfather had lost his sight, and although Abiodun was supposed to be his helper, to be passionate about his well-being, but he was busy doing the opposite. So cruel!
There was a day Abiodun served his grandfather food to eat, and what he gave him was horrible, a rotten egusi soup full of mucus. The poor man couldn’t see until it entered his mouth. He spat it out and shouted Abiodun’s name several times, but Abiodun only stood there laughing loudly. We were children playing nearby, and we saw the whole scenario unfold. Do you know how painful it was for me to witness such a thing at that tender age? Immediately, the prayer came to my mind: “God, please don’t let me go blind, for I don’t want to live my life dependent on anyone.” 🙏
Independence is what I would miss the most because I am used to doing so many things on my own, deciding what to eat without being forced, choosing what to do, where to go, which clothes to wear, who to laugh with, and when to step out. Losing that freedom and having to depend on someone else would be such a heavy burden for me. I reject this in Jesus' name 🙏
Beyond all that, wouldn’t I also miss love? I would miss love, miss people’s faces, the joy givers in my life, and the beauty of the world. I love movies, and I would miss that. I love fashion, and I would miss that too. I would miss people’s expressions and reactions, and most of all, I would miss the things of God’s kingdom, especially the church.
In a nutshell, this question made me pause and appreciate the simple gift of sight. It is a reflection on how we should appreciate God. We wake up every day, open our eyes, and see the beauty of the world as though it is guaranteed, but it is not. I’ve learned to be more grateful for my eyes and to use them for good, to see beauty, to show love, to cherish the moments I’m blessed to witness, and to appreciate God for his faithfulness.
May we never take the light of our body for granted🙏 Eyes, the light of the body.
