Setup a throwing blade target

I have wanted to do this for a while now but yesterday I finally made it happen. I had to cut down one of the biggest rounds since I left it too long to fit the fireplace, but this gave me the nice section of log for the target. I have never cut down a tree this big and so never had a sufficiently sized round to cut a target from. I could have just used a smaller round but I wanted a target that would work for everyone, not just the accurate.

I used 2 rounds for the base and made sure to dig little troughs for each to sit in to mitigate rolling. The 2 rounds sit pretty even and level so the target round sits nice on top of them. It has some cracks to it and we will see just how long it ends up lasting with the freeze thaw cycles.

I had to test it out and the first thing I tried was the old Boy Scout hatchet I have. It flew okay but was hard to get a consistent feeling throw. The thing is also pretty heavy since it is mostly metal with a rubber handle over. After getting a good number of sticks I got my collection of throwing knives and settled on the set of 4. You can see my youngest admiring my one round of hits.

After @stryeyz got home from work she set about throwing until it got to dark to find the knives easily. We found that the backing of the setup being the stacked rock wall is a little rough sometimes when a knife falls into the cracks or goes over it into the cool garden. I am going to figure out something to use as a backing to help trap the blades, plus I am going to be getting more throwing knives and likely a throwing ax or 2. I need a new phone so probably lump the orders together.
